Music lovers are in for a treat when the first of a series of 10 live music mega programmes kicks off at City Hall in September. Sponsored by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), the events are part of a three-year programme to raise the profile of this important cultural space.

September’s stellar lineup includes (made up of two Standard Bank Young Artist Award winners for jazz, Mark Fransman and Kesivan Naidoo); 2011 SAMA female artist of the year ; and an , made up of Congolese and acclaimed Brazilian songwriter and social commentator .

The inaugural City Hall concert will coincide with Creative Week Cape Town, which takes place from 9 to 18 September 2011, the brainchild of the Cape Town Partnership’s Creative Cape Town programme. Under the coordination of Zayd Minty, Creative Week Cape Town was started as a legacy event for Cape Town’s World Design Capital 2014 bid. It also coincides with The Loerie Awards, South Africa’s premier advertising, communication, design and experiential media awards, which will be hosted in Cape Town from 16 to 18 September 2011.

The City of Cape Town is renovating the ablution facilities and interior of City Hall currently.
